Overview

Water treatment that starts with testing, not a sales pitch

Rural properties around Sparrow Lake, Severn Bridge, Gravenhurst and the Muskoka lakes draw from wells, springs and lakes, and each source brings its own water quality issues. Orange staining points to iron. A rotten egg smell points to hydrogen sulphide. Cloudiness suggests sediment or turbidity. Scale means hardness. Guessing at equipment before knowing the cause is how people end up with a basement full of gear that does not fix the problem.

Better Value follows a simple sequence: test, diagnose, recommend, install, service. Our technicians are trained on USF Watergroup, Trojan and Pentair water treatment products, and we specify a system based on what the test actually shows, filtration, softening, iron removal, carbon, UV disinfection, or a combination staged in the correct order.

Order matters as much as equipment. Sediment ahead of softening, softening ahead of UV, and adequate contact time where it is needed. A correctly staged system uses less media, needs less maintenance and keeps working. We also stay available afterwards for filter changes, UV lamp replacement and annual checks.

Questions

Water Treatment & Filtration: questions & answers

Why is my water orange or staining fixtures?+

Almost always iron, sometimes with manganese. The right treatment depends on whether the iron is dissolved or already oxidized, which testing determines.

What causes a rotten egg smell in well water?+

Hydrogen sulphide gas, sometimes with sulphur bacteria. Treatment ranges from carbon filtration to oxidation depending on concentration.

Do I need a UV system?+

If your well or lake supply has ever tested positive for coliform bacteria, UV disinfection is the standard protection. It needs annual lamp changes and clean water ahead of it to work.

How often should well water be tested?+

Bacteria testing at least annually, and after any flooding, well work or noticeable change in taste, smell or colour.

Do you service lake draw water systems?+

Yes. Lake draw intakes with sediment filtration and UV are a very common setup across the cottages we service.
