Overview

Tracing weak water pressure to its real cause

Low water pressure is a symptom, not a diagnosis. In this region it can come from the well itself, a tired pump, a waterlogged pressure tank, a clogged sediment filter or softener, scale inside older galvanized piping, a partly closed valve, or a pressure switch that has drifted out of adjustment. Replacing the wrong component is an expensive way to learn which one it was.

Better Value checks the whole path from source to tap. We measure static and working pressure, watch how the pump cuts in and out, check the pressure tank charge, isolate treatment equipment to see whether it is restricting flow, and compare pressure at different fixtures to find out whether the problem is whole house or local.

That approach matters most on wells and lake draw systems, where several components interact. Because our team services pumps, pressure tanks, water treatment and plumbing, we can test all of it on one visit rather than sending you to three different contractors.

Why it matters

Why low water pressure is worth doing properly

What a proper pressure diagnosis gets you.

One visit, whole system

Pump, tank, treatment and piping checked together instead of piece by piece.

No parts cannon

We measure before we replace, so you are not paying for a new pump that was never the problem.

Longer pump life

Correcting short cycling and a waterlogged tank dramatically extends the life of a well pump.

Well and lake expertise

Rural water systems are a core part of our work, not an occasional side job.

Fixture level fixes too

Sometimes it really is one clogged aerator or cartridge, and we will tell you so.

Documented settings

Pressure switch and tank settings are recorded so future service starts from a known baseline.

Questions

Low Water Pressure: questions & answers

Why did my water pressure drop suddenly?+

A sudden drop often points to a pressure tank that has lost its air charge, a failing pump, a stuck pressure switch, a clogged filter, or a leak somewhere in the line. A gradual decline more often means scale or sediment buildup.

Is low pressure only in one tap a plumbing problem?+

Usually not a system problem. A single weak fixture is normally a clogged aerator, a failing cartridge or a partly closed supply valve.

Can a water softener cause low pressure?+

Yes. A softener or filter with a fouled media bed or a stuck valve can restrict flow to the whole house. We isolate treatment equipment as part of the diagnosis.

What pressure should my house have?+

Most homes run comfortably between 40 and 60 psi. A well system usually switches the pump on around 40 psi and off around 60 psi.

Do you service lake draw systems?+

Yes. Lake draw intakes, foot valves, jet pumps and pressure systems are common work for us across the Muskoka and Sparrow Lake area.
