Overview
Water softeners sized to your water, not a catalogue
Much of the water across Muskoka, Orillia and the surrounding rural areas is hard. Hardness shows up as scale on kettles and shower heads, spotted glassware, soap that will not lather, stiff laundry, dry skin and, most expensively, scale building up inside your water heater and appliances, quietly cutting their efficiency and lifespan.
Better Value tests the water first. Hardness level, iron content, household size and peak demand all determine the resin capacity and regeneration setting a softener needs. An undersized unit regenerates constantly and wastes salt; an oversized one sits idle and channels. Getting the sizing right is the whole job.
We install, repair and replace softeners, and we stay available to service what we install, resin bed cleaning, valve rebuilds, brine tank issues and regeneration settings. If a softener alone will not solve what you are seeing, we will tell you: iron, sulphur odour and sediment need different treatment, which is covered by our water treatment and filtration service.

Lower soap and detergent use
Soft water lathers with far less product, and laundry comes out softer.
Cleaner fixtures
No more chalky buildup on taps, shower heads and glass doors.

Correct regeneration settings mean less salt and less water used per cycle.

Questions
Water Softeners: questions & answers
How do I know if I have hard water?+
White scale on kettles and shower heads, spotty dishes, soap that will not lather, stiff towels and dry skin are the classic signs. We can test to confirm the exact hardness level.
Does a water softener remove iron or smell?+
A softener handles limited iron but is not a treatment for heavy iron, sulphur odour or bacteria. Those need dedicated filtration or UV, which we also install.
How much salt will a softener use?+
It depends on hardness and water use, but a correctly sized and set unit for an average household typically uses a bag every few weeks.
How long does a water softener last?+
Ten to fifteen years is typical with regular service. Valve rebuilds and resin replacement can extend that.
Is softened water safe to drink?+
Yes for most people. If sodium intake is a concern, we can add a reverse osmosis tap for drinking and cooking water.
