Overview
Furnace repair, installation and replacement
The furnace is the workhorse of most homes in this region, running hard from October through April. Better Value repairs, installs and replaces gas, propane and oil fired furnaces for homes, cottages and small commercial spaces across Muskoka and Simcoe County.
For repairs, we diagnose the specific fault: ignition and flame sensing, inducer and blower motors, pressure switches, limit controls, control boards, gas valves and venting problems. For units nearing the end of their life, we give you an honest comparison, what the repair costs, what the unit's realistic remaining life is, and what a modern high efficiency furnace would save in fuel each season.
Installation quality matters more than badge. Correct sizing based on the actual heat loss of the house, properly sized and sealed ductwork, correct venting and combustion air, and a full commissioning with combustion analysis are what determine whether a new furnace is quiet, efficient and long lived. An oversized furnace short cycles, wears out early and heats unevenly no matter how good the equipment is.

Sized and installed correctly
A furnace that is too big or too small keeps switching on and off, wears out early and heats unevenly. Correct sizing and a careful install matter more than the brand name.

Questions
Furnaces: questions & answers
How long does a furnace last?+
Fifteen to twenty years is typical with annual maintenance. Poor airflow, oversizing and skipped service shorten that considerably.
Should I repair or replace my furnace?+
As a rule of thumb, if the unit is over fifteen years old and the repair is a significant share of replacement cost, replacement usually wins on total cost. We give you the actual numbers.
What size furnace do I need?+
The right size comes from a heat loss calculation for your home, not from the size of the old unit. Oversized furnaces short cycle and heat unevenly.
How often should I change the filter?+
Every one to three months depending on the filter type and whether you have pets. A blocked filter is the single most common cause of furnace problems.
Can a new furnace work with a heat pump?+
Yes. A dual fuel setup with a cold climate heat pump and a furnace for the coldest days is an efficient combination in this climate.
