Overview
Backflow prevention, installation and certified testing
A backflow preventer keeps contaminated water from reversing into the potable supply when pressure drops. It protects the building's drinking water and, on commercial connections, the municipal system. Because it is a safety device, it has to be the correct type for the hazard, installed in the correct orientation and location, and tested on a schedule by a licensed tester.
Better Value's qualifications include two backflow prevention licences, and we work on assemblies from half inch household devices through to six inch commercial installations. Irrigation systems, boiler make up lines, fire lines, commercial kitchens and process equipment all commonly require devices, and the requirements differ by application.
Our service covers new installation, annual and periodic testing, rebuilds when a device fails a test, and the test reports property managers need for compliance. If a device fails, we tell you whether a rebuild kit will restore it or whether replacement is the right call.

Called about a problem at the cottage and they walked me through what to do on the phone before they even arrived. Excellent service.

Questions
Backflow: questions & answers
What is backflow and why does it matter?+
Backflow is water reversing direction in a supply line, usually after a pressure drop, which can draw contaminants into drinking water. A backflow preventer physically stops that from happening.
How often does a backflow device need testing?+
Most jurisdictions and insurers require annual testing by a licensed tester. Some commercial applications require it more frequently.
Who can test a backflow preventer?+
Only a licensed backflow tester. Better Value holds backflow prevention licences and issues the test report.
What happens if my device fails the test?+
We identify the failed component. Many devices are restored with a rebuild kit; if the body or seat is damaged, replacement is the correct fix.
Do I need one for my irrigation system?+
In most cases yes. Irrigation connections are a common cross connection hazard and are frequently required to have a device.
